In this article, we review the DeWALT DW735X 13-inch planer. I bought this planer in a kit that includes the extension tables, spare knives, and a mobile stand, which I will also put together. The assembly is a bit tedious for the frame, but follow the directions, and you should be fine.
Features
One nice thing about this planer is the removal gauge, which tells you the depth of cut on the board. The dust chute collects 90% to 95% of the chips, which is a significant improvement over my old Ryobi planner.
Well, first impressions on planing quality – it’s perfect. Quite smooth. This is southern pine. You know, around the knots, not much tear out, some minor stuff here and there, but I guess that’s to be expected.
Final Through
That was just with the, what do they call that, the rough cut instead of the finishing cut, so quite happy with that. There’s the cut quality using some hardwood, in this case, a couple of pieces of butternut I milled. Still a very smooth finish, probably very minimal sanding to get this ready to finish. Very nice. I think this is an excellent planer for a severe home workshop.
